What is Radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas formed from Uranium decay in soil and rock. It is invisible, odourless, and tasteless, detectable only with special equipment. Though low risk outdoors, it can build up indoors, posing a serious lung cancer risk – second only to smoking. It is present in most homes, though levels vary. Radon removal (mitigation) in Canada typically involves installing an Active Soil Depressurization System (ASDS), also known as a Sub-Slab Depressurization System. Here’s how it works:
How is Radon Mitigation Performed?
Step 1
First, the home is assessed to determine potential locations for the system and to analyze how radon enters your home. Structural work is evaluated. If no rough-in is present, a hole is then cored through the concrete slab to get access to the soil beneath the floor.
Step 2
We then perform tests and calculations to determine the amount of suction and airlow we have to collect radon from underneath the floor and prevent it from entering your home.
Step 3
Based on the math from the previous step, we select the right fan for your system, and build the venting pipe to exhaust radon outside.
Step 4
All structural penetrations are sealed, system monitor is installed, and our team will walk you through the work performed.

My experience with Alberta Radon Group for my radon mitigation installation. Dmitry came for a free visit and estimate before the installation, explained everything clearly, and answered all my questions. On the installation day, he came on time and completed the full work in about 4 hours from start to finish. During the installation, Dmitry provided updates at every stage, so I always understood what was being done and why. The work was done professionally, carefully, and with great attention to detail. Before the installation, my radon level was approximately 200 ± 18. After the mitigation system was installed, the level went down to around depends on day 19 to 30, which is a huge improvement and gave me real peace of mind. I also really appreciated that everything was cleaned properly after the work was completed. The area was left clean and in excellent condition. Dmitri was so professional and educated. I tried to shop around and get a few quotes before deciding on a company to perform the radon mitigation. Dmitri was the only one to reply out of 5 places I reached out to. We had our long term testing performed through the University so unfortunately we did not use Alberta Radon Group for the testing portion but did use them for the sub slab decompression. Dmitri showed up when he said he was going to, performed all work as described and was able to answer all questions we had. The work area was clean and tidy upon completion and they were able to tuck the system so it’s not in the way.
